For numerical simulations of technically relevant flow phenomena, high-precision numerical methods and reliable physical models are needed. Industrial aerodynamics problems and ventilation systems are investigated by the numerical simulations group, applying commercial CFD-solvers. For more detailed investigations of instationary turbulent flows, available simulation techniques are being applied. These techniques have been developed with special regard to complex geometries and modern turbulence models; in cooperation with industrial partners Direct Numerical Simulation
and Large Eddy Simulation
is being performed.
