Investigation of Unsteady Phenomena on Missiles in Manoeuvring Flight
Department of High Speed Configurations
Experimental Setup in TWG
To investigate the dynamic behaviour of a missile already in its design process, a missile was studied in manoeuvring flight within the framework of the DLR-project of the “High Agile Missile” HaFK. This includes transonic Mach numbers, high angles of attack, as well as the simulation of rolling motions or the asymmetric deflections of single control surfaces. For this purpose a device to roll the model was re-designed for the Transonic Wind Tunnel facility (TWG) of the DLR Göttingen. This technology, which became also known as “
AeroSUM
”-technology, allows the missile to conduct free and guided rolling motions. The unsteady forces and moments, typical for rolling motions, were measured on a missile configuration also equipped with grid fins.
