"Overnight computation of 6-point polar for landing configuration of a transport aircraft"

Transport aircraft in landing configuration, Hybrid mesh of approx 12 mill nodes:
(Heinz Jakob, EGAGM, April 2006)

  • RANS computation
  • M = 0.202, Re = 1.52 mill.
  • α = 0.53° 4.75° 11.04° 15.18° 17.50° 18.07° - each 4000-6000 cycles
    = 12.9 CPU-h on 48 processors Itanium 

  • 6 polar points, simultaneous computation = 6x48 = 288 processors in 12.9 hours
