The operation methods of M2VP

Open circuit without blower

Using the open circuit without blower, the air flow starts at the inlet tower, a settling chamber and a bellmouth inlet. It then passes the test area and is released into atmosphere through a silencer. This configuration is used for axial compressors with a medium pressure ratio.

Open circuit with blower

Using the open circuit with additional blower (3), compressors with a low total pressure ratio and high mass flow (e.g. fans of propfans) can be tested. The maximum mass flow rate is 185 kg/s.

Closed circuit

Using the closed circuit, compressors with a power consumption higher than 10 MW can be tested. This is achieved by reducing the pressure in the piping system. Therefore, behind the test section the air flows through a cooler directly back into the settling chamber.
