Optional extended optical access combustor
High pressure combustion test rig (up to 20 bar) offering three-way optical access to combustor primary zone.
Air flow routing characteristic of aero-engine combustors: Mixing jets downstream of primary zone.
Optional extended optical access combustor: Slightly reduced access to primary zone, wide access to mixing zone, additional access through windows in exit nozzle flange.

Applicationss:

Investigation of the reacting 2-phase flow field of aero-engine air-fuel nozzles at realistic operating conditions (air inlet temperature up to 850K, thermal load up to 1 MW) using advanced optical measurement techniques focussing on:

  • air flow field
  • liquid fuel atomization
  • air-fuel (spray and vapour) mixing
  • flame stabilization / lean extinction
  • combustion instabilities (optional forced excitation)
  • pollutant formation / abatement
  • Test rig specs

Test rig specifications:

Main air flow up to 1 kg/s
Cooling air flow up to 2 kg/s
Combustor pressure up to 20 bar
Main air inlet temperature bis 850 K
Max. thermal load 1 MW
Combustor cross section 100mm x 100mm
Fuels Kerosin Jet A-1, Erdgas
Test rig mounted on a remote-controlled 3-axis traversing unit

Optical measurement techniques:

plus visual inspection and standard eyhaust gas analysis.
