Combustor testing department Design / Projekt

It is the target of the Design Group to support the whole process of the test bed development. It offers single source responsibility for the coordination of all phases from idea to concept, construction, test bed development, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and up to the final acceptance with the partners.

  • Test bed development for future combustor technology for aerospace applications
  • Design and construction of test units with optical access under realistic conditions concerning temperature (2000K) and pressure (20 bar).
  • Implementation of requirements by industrial and scientific partners, creating technically feasible concepts.
  •  Optimization, maintenance and servicing for hot gas parts in the Center of Combustion Technology.

Possibilities:

To meet these versatile challenges, the group has established a network of internal and external partners, which enables the completion of each contract on schedule

  • Pan-european framework of suppliers and manufacturers for various products (steels, quartz glasses,..)
  • Cooperation for engineering and manufacturing of high pressure and high temperature components
  • Access to internal and external “emergency capacities” to meet flexible demands arising from the test operation
  • On-site workshop for repairs during the test campaign
  • 1 CATIA V5 workplace, ANSYS DESIGN AEROSPACE

Competences:

  • Design of hot gas parts (2000K)
  • Design of hot gas seals
  • Design of cooling concepts (window or flame tube cooling)
  • Design experience in the field of INCONEL and HASTELOY steel
  • Constant discussion with design companies, universities and institutes enables the group to remain up-to-date
  • FEM analysis accompanying the design
