Fields of expertice are organised within different teams.
The "Numerical and Analytical Prediction" team studies the modelling and simulation of aircraft engine noise. One objective is the design of quieter turbomachinery components: typically pre-design studies are performed with the help of semi-analytical models and CFD-CAA solvers are used to conduct a more accurate acoustic assessment of the design.
Team Leader: Sebastian Guerin
The flow control team is concerned using active and passive methods in various fields of fluid dynamics. The main objective is to increase efficiency and to reduce noise especially in turbo machines. With experimental investigations in different flow channels we develop and optimized suitable methods and their implementation to control turbulent flows. The team has a special focus on controlling turbulent flows by passive and active means within the scope of

The turbomachinery acoustics group develops and applies techniques for the measurement and analysis of flow-induced noise sources of aircraft engines and their principal components, the fan, the compressor, and the turbine. Noise sources models are used to describe, appraise, and localize noise sources. In order to decrease noise sources and reduce noise during propagation, the group develops active, adaptive and passive methods that are based on flow control strategies. Gruppenleiter: Ulf Tapken und Henri Siller
The Combustion Acoustics team investigates unsteady phenomena in combustion systems in particular combustion noise in aircraft engines and stationary gas turbines. This involves especially the investigation of the different combustion noise generation mechanisms including the combustor-turbine interaction. The second research area of this team covers the exploration and analysis of acoustic damping devices in aero-engines, also called liner. Team Leader: Friedrich Bake
