Design and Manufacture Technologies
The department of “Design and Manufacture Technologies” combines the construction, design and computation with the process and production technology to an offer of a holistic, scientific engineering method for design and structures with fiber reinforced composites. In special attention are structures for aircrafts and structures made from polymer and thermoplastic composites using different high performance fiber and hybrid structures from fiber reinforced composite material and metals.

Automatisierung und Qualitätssicherung in der Produktionstechnologie
Die Abteilung Automatisierung und Qualitätssicherung in der Produktionstechnologie komplettiert die Prozesskette für carbonfaserverstärkte Kunststoffe (CFK). Schwerpunkte sind die Textil- und Infusionstechnologie (Duromer), die Thermoplastverarbeitung, die produktionsintegrierte Qualitätssicherung, die Montage- und Verbindungstechnologie und die Robotik für Faserverbundfertigung. Ziel ist eine durchgängige Automatisierung des Produktionsprozesses für die Fertigung von Faserverbundstrukturen.

Ceramic Composites Structures
In the department „ceramic composite structures“ fibre reinforced ceramic materials as well as lightweight CMC (Ceramic Matrix Composite) structures for extreme applications have been developed since the late 1980`s. Thereby the complete process chain, including material and process development, design, layout and dimensioning and the manufacture of structural parts in original geometry, is available.

Space System Integration
The system oriented development work in the department of Space System Integration concentrates on the two groups thermal protection systems and hot primary structures of re-entry vehicles, as well as on thrust chamber technology for effusion cooled, cryogenic rocket engines in a new hybrid construction using polymere and ceramic composite materials. Both domains are important key technologies for the development of future space transportation systems.
