CMC Structures for Ballistic Protection
With biomorphic SiC ceramics, large sized and complex shaped structures with high ballistic performance in combination with low area weights can be realized. Low cost raw materials as well as near neat shape manufacturing methods offer technological as well as economic advantages in comparison to conventional SiC materials and manufacturing methods, and therefore have a high potential to open new application fields for lightweight ceramic armour.
