Jan Wörner

Johann-Dietrich Wörner was born in Kassel in 1954. He has been Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Aerospace Center since 1 March 2007.

Wörner studied civil engineering at the Technische Universität Berlin and the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, from where he graduated in 1985. In 1982, as part of his studies, he spent two years in Japan, investigating earthquake safety. Until 1990 Wörner worked for the consulting civil engineers König und Heunisch. In 1990 he returned to Darmstadt University, where he was appointed to a professorship in Civil Engineering and took over as Head of the Testing and Research Institute. Before being elected President of the Technische Universität Darmstadt in 1995, he held the position of Dean of the Civil Engineering Faculty.

Weichen stellen … mehr DLR wagen!

Die Bundesregierung hat die Geschäfte aufgenommen, das neue Jahr ist schon richtig in Fahrt und auf diversen Neujahrsempfängen sind die institutionellen und persönlichen Vorsätze und Forderungen formuliert worden. Für das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) gilt es, die erfolgreiche Arbeit fortzusetzen, auch weiterhin wichtige Beiträge für die nationalen und globalen Herausforderungen zu leisten und die uns anvertrauten Steuermittel möglichst optimal einzusetzen. Dies alles geschieht in einer Zeit, die nicht nur durch die wahlinduzierten politischen Positionierungen, sondern auch durch weiträumigere, gesellschaftliche Veränderungen gekennzeichnet ist, die unser Handeln beeinflussen. read more

Setting the course… to dare for more DLR!

The German federal government has been getting down to business, the New Year is well under way, and institutional and personal resolutions and claims have been set down at various New Year's receptions. For the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) these are to keep up the good work, continue making important contributions to national and global challenges, and to make the best possible use of the money entrusted to us by the taxpayers. All this comes at a time marked not only by political manoeuvring, but also by large-scale societal changes that influence our actions. read more
