Jan Wörner

Johann-Dietrich Wörner was born in Kassel in 1954. He has been Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Aerospace Center since 1 March 2007.

Wörner studied civil engineering at the Technische Universität Berlin and the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, from where he graduated in 1985. In 1982, as part of his studies, he spent two years in Japan, investigating earthquake safety. Until 1990 Wörner worked for the consulting civil engineers König und Heunisch. In 1990 he returned to Darmstadt University, where he was appointed to a professorship in Civil Engineering and took over as Head of the Testing and Research Institute. Before being elected President of the Technische Universität Darmstadt in 1995, he held the position of Dean of the Civil Engineering Faculty.

Verarbeitung der ersten TanDEM-X-Daten aus Inuvik

Glücklich und zufrieden ist Erhard Diedrich, verantwortlich für den Aufbau der Empfangsstation in Inuvik, mit seinen Kollegen aus Kanada zurückgekehrt. Die Einweihung der Station am 10. August war ein bewegendes Ereignis. Aber auch der erfolgreiche Abschluss der ersten Testphase in Inuvik ist Anlass zur Freude. Seit April wurden nun schon über 300 Passagen empfangen, darunter 60 vom TanDEM-X-Satelliten. read more

Processing of first TanDEM-X data received at Inuvik

Erhard Diedrich, in charge of the building of the Inuvik satellite station, returned from Canada with his colleagues, a happy man. The inauguration on 10 August was not only moving, but also marked the end of a successful first checkout phase. Over 300 passes of data have been acquired since April this year, among them 60 from the TanDEM-X satellite. read more

Mit dem Segen der Inuit: Neue DLR-Bodenstation in Inuvik

In Inuvik im Nordenwesten Kanadas hat das DLR eine Satellitendaten-Empfangsstation installiert, die am 10. August 2010 offiziell eingeweiht wurde. Anlässlich dieser Einweihung reisten Vertreter verschiedener kanadischer Raumfahrtorganisationen, der kanadischen Politik und natürlich auch wir vom DLR an. In einer schönen Feier bei hervorragendem Wetter wurde die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Kanada und Deutschland besonders gewürdigt und durch einen anschließenden Empfang ergänzt. read more

Inauguration of the DLR ground station in Inuvik

DLR’s new satellite data receiving station in Inuvik, northwestern Canada, was officially inaugurated on 10 August 2010. Representatives of several Canadian space and political organisations travelled to Inuvik for the event, as did we from DLR. The beautiful weather seemed tailor-made for celebrating the cooperation between Canada and Germany, and the event closed with an enjoyable reception. read more
