Johannes Weppler is passionate about space since he first saw Captain Picard and his Enterprise on the TV screen. And so he began studying aerospace engineering at the University of Stuttgart in 2004. After undertaking internships at Astrium (now Airbus Defense & Space) and at CSIS in Washington DC and abroad at the University of Virginia ( USA) and University of Strathclyde (UK), he graduated in 2011 with a degree in engineering .
2010/2011 brought Johannes Weppler to DLR , when he took part in the REXUS programme, together with fellow students. The specially developed experiment was launched from Kiruna, Sweden on a small rocket in February 2011. Since 2012, the space enthusiast works at the DLR Space Administration in the Department "Human Spaceflight, ISS and Exploration". There, he looks after the ISS operating program, the national use of the station and the European contribution to the Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle MPCV –ESM.
