Current Images

Data from numerous earth observation satellites are collected by DFD's antennas. Products reflecting a variety of processing stages are generated from this data in near-real-time, archived in the national data library, and made available via EOWEB. Some of these products can be viewed directly from our Web page, "Current Satellite Images." Here you can find color composites of data from NOAA's AVHRR and TERRA's MODIS showing Europe, as well as maps derived from these data with water and land surface temperatures as well as a vegetation index. Information about current total ozone content over Europe and the polar ice caps is supplied by the GOME instrument, and the chlorophyll concentration of the Baltic Sea is being determined with the help of the MOS sensor.

News Archive

On our home page you can find current topics and news items related to remote sensing. All the information that appears here is later transferred  to the "News Archive" where it remains accessible. Use the full text search option if you don't find what you want right away. And the link list to the right refers you to other pages with news.

Events

Both applied remote sensing institutes organize an internal science colloquium at which information is shared about current projects and research. Since 1985 an annual DFD user seminar has been held where internal and external speakers representing the science community and users from the pubic and private sectors provide information about current earth observation activities. In a summer school specialized remote sensing topics are studied in detail. The two institutes also regularly provide satellite images and other information for special exhibits and a variety of public events.

Jobs and Training

To assist up-and-coming scientists, the applied remote sensing institutes have positions for interns as well as for diploma and doctoral candidates; term employment is advertised for project scientists.
