The energy policy objectives of increasing energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the increased use of renewable energies call for rising efforts in the management of both electricity and heat and cannot be achieved without the development of improved conversion methods and utilisation techniques. The research area known as "energy process technology" with its conversion technologies such as fuel cells and electrical catalysts, storage technologies and new methods for fuel processing and hydrogen generation can render significant contributions.
