Studies in energy carried out by researchers at the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) have shown that it is possible to supply Europe and North Africa with environment-friendly energy. Their work is based on the DESERTEC energy concept. This short DLR film shows how the region can be supplied with low-cost electricity from the desert.
The energy studies are being carried out by the Department of Systems Analysis and Technology Assessment of the DLR Institute of Technical Thermodynamics in Stuttgart. This Institute will also develop storage technologies to make energy available in conditions of low wind, as well as at nighttime and in the event of cloud cover. The film is funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg.
