First harvest in the Antarctic greenhouse EDEN ISS

5. April 2018

While the temperatures in the Antarctic gradually drop below 20 degrees Celsius and the Sun barely rises above the horizon, the plants being cultivated in the experimental greenhouse EDEN ISS are growing and thriving. After the first three weeks, Paul Zabel from the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) has, over the last few days, harvested the first crops in the cold environment.

DLR at JEC 2018 in Paris

6. March 2018

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) will present its latest research projects on the topic of high-performance fibre-reinforced polymers from 6 to 8 March 2018 at JEC World in Paris – the leading European composites trade fair.

From research to industry: DLR invests in the spin-off company COPRO Technology GmbH

8. February 2018

Lightweight structures are on the rise both in aircraft and automotive manufacturing. So far, it has only been possible to mass-produce these components at great cost. The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) has granted COPRO Technology GmbH the licence for a new, cost-effective and therefore economical manufacturing technology.

Gemeinsame Forschungsflüge über Deutschland

DLR/NASA research flights over northern Germany

24. January 2018

The joint research flights being conducted by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are now half complete. Today, on 24 January 2018, the fourth of eight planned joint flights took off from Ramstein Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

NASA and DLR investigate the impact of aviation on the climate - joint flight tests on alternative fuel emissions

12. January 2018

In January 2018, the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, DLR) and the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are set to conduct joint research flights in Germany for the first time. The focus will be on alternative fuel emissions and the characterisation of ice crystals in condensation trails (contrails), using biofuel as an example.

Integrating air taxis and freight drones flexibly into urban airspace

21. December 2017

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) has developed a ground-breaking concept that brings unmanned aircraft of all classes together with conventional aeroplanes and helicopters within urban airspace and beyond for the very first time.

Unmanned Freight Operations

15. December 2017

Use of unmanned aircraft is steadily increasing, especially in the freight transport sector – and hey are becoming increasingly important. In future, freight aircraft could increasingly be controlled from the ground.

Greenhouses for the Moon, moles for Mars

22. September 2017

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) will be showcasing its latest research at this year's International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Adelaide, Australia.

Active rotor control to reduce noise and vibration

25. July 2017

Under some operating conditions, rotors are the main source of noise produced by a helicopter. To reduce this noise and the simultaneous vibrations, the German Aerospace Centre (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), together with Airbus Helicopters Deutschland, has tested active rotor control on a modern, five-blade rotor in a wind tunnel as part of the SKAT (Scalability and risk minimisation of technology) research project. The result was an approximately 30 percent reduction in noise.

SAGITTA successfully completes first flight

18. July 2017

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), in tandem with project leader Airbus Defence and Space, has successfully flight tested a new aircraft as part of the development of future production-ready drones (UAVs, unmanned aerial vehicles).
