From research to industry: DLR invests in the spin-off company COPRO Technology GmbH

Lightweight structures are on the rise both in aircraft and automotive manufacturing. So far, it has only been possible to mass-produce these components at great cost. The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) has granted COPRO Technology GmbH the licence for a new, cost-effective and therefore economical manufacturing technology.

DLR/NASA research flights over northern Germany

Active rotor control to reduce noise and vibration

Under some operating conditions, rotors are the main source of noise produced by a helicopter. To reduce this noise and the simultaneous vibrations, the German Aerospace Centre (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), together with Airbus Helicopters Deutschland, has tested active rotor control on a modern, five-blade rotor in a wind tunnel as part of the SKAT (Scalability and risk minimisation of technology) research project. The result was an approximately 30 percent reduction in noise.
