Cooling Centre is an integrative approach to an innovative centralised cooling system pursued under the ECOCENTS joint project to enhance the economic efficiency and environmental sustainability of aircraft. Under the project, the main task of the DLR Institute of Technical Thermodynamics is to validate the system experimentally, which consists of heat-exchanger modules and flow channels installed at the tip of the aircraft tail. It enables centralised cooling by air that is sucked into the system from the outside by a radial fan. Measurements made during the experiments include local flow rates, local air and fluid temperatures, and flow distributions within the interior of the tail end.
