Querschnitt der Ariane 5
Quelle: DLR.
The structural behavior of a composite laminate depends on the fiber orientation. During lamination of composite structures following problems may arise: global shape distortions, voids, overlapping, wrinkles, etc.
The planned structures to be analyzed are scaled-down versions of real conical parts from the European Launcher Vehicle ARIANE 5. Conical structures represent a challenge for the design and manufacture process using pre-peg laminates because the radius changes along the height.
The task is to implement the lamination simulation (draping and tailoring simulation), in order to predict manufacturability, optimize draping process and minimize imperfections of the structures. Structural simulation of the final design also must be addressed in order to characterize the influence of the optimized lamination process on stability of cones loaded in compression up to buckling.
The major contribution of this research will be a practical application of findings on the manufacture process of conical structures for the DESICOS European project www.desicos.eu.
