Your mission:

Dragon is a cooperation between ESA and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the P.R. China, see https://dragon3.esa.int/web/dragon-3/home. Within the framework of the Dragon 3 project a holistic view of the monsoon impact on tropospheric air pollutants and the potential impact of air pollutants on a regional climate change over China will be investigated by combining satellite, in situ and aircraft measurements with modeling calculations.
In this work, one of two topics can be selected:

  • Insitu measurements (MAXDOAS) of NO2, SO2 and aerosol over China (2 years data) will be analyzed and used to validate satellite observations
  • Training in a global and regional Chemical Transport Model (CTM) in China and application of the CTM to study the monsoon impact on air quality over China

Your qualifications:

  • Preferred field of study: Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Meteorology, Physics, Space Science or similar
  • Good marks in previous studies are desirable; fluent in spoken and written English
  • Computer skills: LINUX, UNIX, good programming skills (for example: C/C++ or Fortran or Python or IDL).
  • Remark: The positions are funded by ESA and are open for candidates with nationality from an ESA Member State or from ESA European Cooperating States (European countries plus Canada)
