Organised by DLR, it offers you the chance to work shoulder to shoulder with experts from the 20 member states of ESA - keeping your finger on the pulse of Europe‘s space programmes. Over a period up to 24 months, you will actively contribute to the latest research and/or technology projects. This is complemented by a generous scholarship. Within the ESA Procurement Department, the Launchers and Headquarters Procurement Division in ESA HQ covers primarily all procurements relevant the ESA Launcher Programmes, HQ procurements, General Studies as well as EU Horizon 2020 programme contracts. As such the division is in charge of a large diversification of procurement tasks, covering general procurements, technology studies up to large and complex launcher procurements and launch service agreements. The Division implements all related procurement tasks, ranging from the tender planning, the issue invitations to tender, the evaluation of offers (with the relevant programme directorate), the negotiation of the respective contracts as well all tasks related to the implementation of the placed contracts.

Tasks:

The trainee will provide dedicated support to one or two contract officer(s) and support him/her in the preparation of all tendering documents, preparing contractual analysis and assessments. To acquire the background necessary to do these tasks, the trainee will also work as part of the contracts team in the division, to actually take part in tendering process, contract negotiations and contracts follow up. The trainee will be implementing all the above activities within the host division. Dependent of his/her background and experience, the trainee is expected to work autonomously under the control of his dedicated supervisor. The trainee will be supervised and trained by one dedicated Contract Officer of the ESA Launchers and Headquarters Procurement Division.

Your qualifications:

  • German citizenship is absolutely necessary
  • applicants should have just completed (conclusion not older than two years) or be in their final year of a university course at Master’s level in Law or Economics, in the latter case, candidates should demonstrate their skills and experience in dealing with contractual/legal issues
  • a deep interest in the area of analysing contractual regulations and drafting contracts and other contractual documents will be a distinct asset
  • strong relational and organisational skills are required, together with a positive and energetic personality and strong team work ability
  • candidates must be fluent in English or French, the official languages of the agency
