Model based requirements management for the space mission design framework

Starting date

Duration of contract

3-6 months

Type of employment

Your mission:

The mission of the institute "Simulation and Software Technology" is to break new ground in software development and to support our engineers with smart and innovative solutions in their daily work. One of these solutions is called “Virtual Satellite”. The "Virtual Satellite" supports our engineers: it helps new spacecraft and missions to become reality - beginning from the very first idea through to design and construction until they are operative.

We are a dynamic, international and young team consisting of computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians and others. Every day we accept the challenge of pushing the digital revolution a step further within space business. This is where we commit our research, we are opening new paths for us and our colleagues in software and spacecraft development. Managing the requirements in multidisciplinary projects such as space missions is a difficult task. There are professional tools available for the requirements management. However, such tools are tedious to work with, expensive and hardly integrate into the space engineering processes. With Virtual Satellite, we are trying to bridge the gap between different domains of the space mission and therefore it is beneficial to integrate requirements management. Linking requirements to the system model will help for traceability and verification processes.

As part of your master or bachelor thesis your tasks and responsibilities are:

  • investigate the state of the art of Requirement management in Space missions
  • analyze linking of requirements to system model for traceability and verification
  • explore eclipse based tool chain for model based systems engineering
  • provide a proof of concept of your results within our Virtual Satellite framework

If you enjoy developing software and want to become a part of our team, we are looking forward to receiving your application. We are interested in highly motivated students who deliver high quality work. We offer you the possibility to bring in your own ideas and research topics.

Your qualifications:

  • you are currently studying in bachelor or master course in computer science or space engineering
  • you have a solid knowledge of model based systems engineering and requirements management
  • you are an expert in software development with Java and Eclipse
  • you are able to communicate in English (the supervision will be in English)

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Reconciling family and working life as well as equal opportunities for women and men are an integral part of our HR policy. We therefore strongly encourage applications from women. Disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preferential treatment.
