Type of employment

Full-time (part-time possible)

Your mission:

DLR is developing its own space missions and participates in national and international missions. The DLR institute Simulation and Software Technology investigates and develops new software engineering techniques for the development of the onboard software for those missions. We are focusing on (real-time) operating systems, driver development, middleware, command and data handling, attitude and orbit control systems, and reconfigurable distributed systems. An important methodology is the model-driven software development, which we are applying to several missions and research projects.

An important aspect is the product assurance of the software development. Space missions have very high requirements on the reliability of the software. Hence, the product assurance has to be considered throughout the whole development process.

We are looking for further colleagues who are able to support us in the software development for different missions and bring forward our research in the mentioned topics.

You will address the following tasks as part of our team and with our project partners:

  • research and development of system software for space missions
  • development of software architectures for complex mission-critical software systems
  • integration of software modules in embedded real-time systems
  • applying and investigating advanced programming techniques for safety-critical software systems
  • support of product assurance activities for internal and ESA missions
  • research of new methods for software product assurance

If you love to perform software development and want to become a member of our team, we would be happy to receive your application. We are looking for highly motivated people with the ambition to create top quality software. We are offering an environment where people can bring in own ideas. We expect that new projects are inspired and advanced methods are investigated. Part of your job will also be the presentation of your research on international conferences and in scientific journals. We are offering an exciting, friendly, and flexible working environment which also provides part time.

Your qualifications:

  • you have an excellent Master in Computer Science or in a similar research direction
  • you are an expert in object-oriented software development in C++
  • you possess a profound knowledge in systems programming
  • you are a team player, creative, and able to work independent and self-motivated
  • you are fluent in spoken and written English (knowledge of German is an asset)
  • ideally you are experienced in product assurance in the space domain
  • knowledge in programming of Linux and real-time operating systems (RTEMS) is beneficial
  • profound experience in microcontroller programming is an advantage
  • experience in hardware driver development is an asset

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Reconciling family and working life as well as equal opportunities for women and men are an integral part of our HR policy. We therefore strongly encourage applications from women. Disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preferential treatment.
