Student Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or similar: Intelligent Streamline Computation for Large-Scale CFD Simulation

Your mission:

Computational fluid dynamics simulation is widely used in medical research, such as the simulation of blood flow   inside an aneurysm.  Streamline visualization of such simulation data provides better understanding of the blood hemodynamics and is essential for both aneurysm diagnosis and treatment. For large simulation datasets, streamline computations are hard to parallelize. The aim of this thesis is to explore parallel distributed streamline algorithms on supercomputers.  In order to improve the performance and reduce communication and I/O cost, streamline seeding strategy and prediction will be carry out as the main focus of this study. The major tasks of this thesis include:

  • Implementation of parallel streamline algorithm for flow simulation data
  • Investigation and study on streamline seeding and prediction
  • Evaluation of proposed algorithms for extreme scale (tera, peta) systems
