Excellent opportunities for pioneers

We want to continue achieving top-level results in the future – and to do this we need the innovation potential of men and women alike. At the German Aerospace Center (DLR), we systematically work on providing every man and woman the best conditions for this. We have been committed to ensuring equal opportunity at work since 1998. DLR has continuously received the ‘Total E-Quality’ accreditation and the audit berufundfamilie® (career and family) certificate for many years. These awards are an external confirmation of our exemplary, family-friendly and equal opportunity HR policies. The steadily increasing proportion of women in scientific and engineering departments – especially in management positions – is further affirmation of our policy.

Despite all the progress made, we strive to become even better

We want even more highly qualified women to contribute to top-level research in Germany. This is why we support talented female scientists. Individual HR development measures are especially important in this regard. We not only provide communication and management training exclusively for women, but also an internal mentoring and talent management programme. Moreover, we contribute actively to the ‘Taking the Lead’ mentoring programme of the Helmholtz Association, with which DLR is affiliated. The purpose is to promote talented young female scientists and to prepare them for management positions in research institutions. Networking is another important aspect.

A major challenge often faced by young professionals is reconciling their professional and private lives. DLR provides many support services in this respect: in addition to an internal family guidance office, our external cooperation partner, awo lifebalance, offers comprehensive services for all matters relating to childcare and dependent family members. DLR also has numerous flexible work-time models, including flexitime, part-time, alternating teleworking and even mobile work. Work with us to tailor your (work) day to best suit you and your tasks.
