Parliament visit to the Research Airport

About 25 members of the parliament group for aerospace of the German parliament ‘Deutscher Bundestag’, some regional and local politicians and representatives of well-known enterprises paid a visit to the Research Airport Braunschweig on July 2nd 2007.
After the welcome and an introduction at the Luftfahrtbundesamt (LBA), the federal German aviation authority, the group visited some aeronautical enterprises and several institutes of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) where they were given an overview of the ongoing projects and developments. The main points of interest were the reduction of emissions, the increase of airports' capacities, unmanned air traffic (with so called UAV – Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and the development of intelligent assistance systems for air and ground based traffic.
The combined exhibition of aircraft and exhibits of DLR, the Technical University of Braunschweig and nearby enterprises gave an inspiriting background for a final get-together.
Kurt J. Rossmanith, chairman of the parliament group for aerospace closed the visit with the words: ‘Today, we were able to experience a highlight of German research and development.’
