The Apollo algorithm calculates an array of physical cloud parameters from the received satellite data. This data acquired by the AVHRR instrument on the American NOAA 19 satellite shows an ash cloud and a thin sky cover that stretches from Iceland into the North Sea. The data are received daily from the German Remote Sensing Data Center (Deutsches Fernerkundungsdatenzentrum; DFD) in Oberpfaffenhofen. The data are available through the World Data Center for Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere (
wdc.dlr.de), operated by DFD.
