The Bacillus subtilis is a robust bacillus, which is currently the subject of numerous investigations conducted in the ISS Columbus space laboratory. Dr Horneck used Bacillus subtilis to investigate the influence of cosmic radiation on bacilli. DLR radiation biologists are hoping to conduct research using the even more robust Bacillus horneckiae in the near future.
