Highest French award for DLR Chairman, Professor Sigmar Wittig

Professor Sigmar Wittig receives the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur
In the presence of representatives from the world of politics, science and economics, the chairman of the board of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and former Rector of the University of Karlsruhe, Professor Sigmar Wittig was awarded the title of Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur by the French Minister for Science and Research, Francois Goulard. Also present at the ceremony was the President of CNES, Yannick d'Escatha.
In his speech, the Minister particularly referred to Dr Wittig's services to the development of the scientific exchange between the two countries as well as Franco-German space cooperation, particularly in the context of the European space projects, Galileo and Ariane.
The former French Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Schumann thanked Dr Wittig in particular for the many years of continuous and efficient co-operation between DLR and its French partner organisation, CNES.
