Terminal 1 (red arrow) and Terminal 2 (blue arrow) send their data (in this case, a videoconference) to the Eutelsat Eurobird 3 satellite. This forwards the data to the DVB-S2 Gateway terrestrial station at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen. The gateway's modem bundles the two data packets and compresses them by around 45 percent. Then it sends the resulting single packet (turquoise arrow) back to the satellite, which sends it on to the terminals. The terminals then separate the old (sent) data from the new (received) data.
