A copper mine in Chile: this TanDEM-X three-dimensional elevation model shows the 400-metre deep mine, Minera Escondida. After the ore has been extracted, the excavated stone is dumped in piles that can reach a height of 100 metres. Parts of the mine infrastructure, such as the water filtration tanks, can be seen as square surfaces in the pit.
