With the thermal infrared spectrometer MERTIS (Mercury Radiometer and Thermal Infrared Spectrometer), ESA's Mercury mission BepiColombo will be able to discover the minerology and composition of the messenger planet.
MERTIS was put together by a DLR team led by Dr Jörn Helbert and Prof. Harald Hiesinger.
