On 22 July 2008, the fifth reconnaissance satellite of the SAR-Lupe system was launched from the Russian Plesetsk Cosmodrome. The first communication between the Space Operations Center of DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen and the satellite confirmed the faultless operation of the satellite.
