"These flights were quite stressful for us because the strong updraughts that kept developing in the vicinity of the storm forced us to make last-minute adjustments to the flight plans," says Martin Weismann, speaking about the Falcon's six-week measurement campaign in Japan.

An international team of atmospheric researchers has explored the typhoons Sinlaku and Jagmi at very close quarters. The goal of their data-gathering flights was improved forecasting of tropical cyclones. They also investigated the effects typhoons had on mid-latitude air mass flows.
