For many years, Dr Gerda Horneck has been investigating microorganisms under space conditions, such as those obtaining on board the International Space Station ISS. American scientists are now paying tribute to the achievements of their German colleague, who has extensive experience in radiation biology, by naming a newly discovered species of bacillus "Bacillus horneckiae".
