Exoplanet CoRoT-9b und sein Stern

CoRoT-9b, a temperate exoplanet

CoRoT-9b, a Jupiter-sized exoplanet thats orbits its star every 95 days, is the latest discovery of the CoRoT satellite, a project in which the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is a participant. "This exoplanet stands out by virtue of its 'normality'. It is a very close approximation of the planets in our own Solar System," says Prof. Heike Rauer, who manages the German contribution to CoRoT.

Phobos flyby images


15 March 2010
Images from the recent flyby of Phobos, taken on 7 March 2010 by the German Aerospace Center-operated High Resolution Stereo Camera, are being released today. The images show Mars’s rocky moon in exquisite detail, with a resolution of 4.4 metres per pixel, including the proposed landing sites for the forthcoming Phobos-Grunt mission.

Lying in bed to serve science


5 March 2010
For three weeks, volunteers will be lying in bed around the clock in the name of science at the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Cologne. The body reacts – as it does in zero gravity – with fluid migration and loss of bone mass and muscle tissue. Ideal conditions for nutritionist Dr Petra Frings-Meuthen, who is testing a dietary supplement to reduce or prevent these changes.
