DLR traffic monitoring images help avoid match-day congestion 07/11/2006 Germany’s recent successes on the football pitch were matched by a success for high technology from DLR. The traffic research project ‘Soccer’, operated by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), was used to assist in traffic management during the FIFA World Cup, using up-to-the-minute traffic data gathered from the air. |

Traffic data acquisition from above: DLR Project Soccer takes off 7 June 2006 Two days before start of the 2006 FIFA World Cup football championship, hosted this year by Germany, DLR traffic engineers are fully prepared for 'Project Soccer'. The project involves a Stuttgart-based police helicopter as well as a commercial light aircraft from Berlin, which have been equipped with specially adapted cameras and computers to gather data to assist in traffic management. Further, on 10 June 2006, the airship 'Zeppelin NT' is expected to arrive in Bonn-Hangelar, where it will serve as a platform for DLR traffic monitoring technology during the game in Cologne. |
