What will the 'train of the future' look like? What materials will it be built from? How will future rail systems be managed? Answering these questions will be facilitated by the cooperation agreement between the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and the world's leading rail company, Bombardier Transportation, which was signed on 25 November 2009. The image shows a model of the 'Next Generation Train', DLR's project for the train of the future. The aim is to develop type-approved high-speed trains with greatly reduced specific energy consumption and improved comfort and noise characteristics.
