Decentralised power stations: greater efficiency through combined heat and power 9 March 2010 Small Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants, which generate power and heat in the immediate vicinity of consumers, can augment the output of large power stations effectively and with low emissions – to the benefit of hospitals, industrial plants, nursery schools or even residential households. To drive forward the development of decentralised power plants, Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart have launched a collaborative project. |

Power from the desert: from vision to implementation - kick-off meeting for the enerMENA project in Almería 10 February 2010 The DESERTEC concept envisions solar power stations in North Africa and the Middle East providing electricity to those regions and to Europe in a way that is sustainable and cost-effective. The international enerMENA project (energy in Middle East and North Africa) is intended to pave the way for the technical and socio-economic implementation of this concept. enerMENA was launched on 10 February 2010 in Almería, Spain under the direction of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). |

Designer fuels for aviation 28 January 2010 Designer fuels based on coal, natural gas and sustainable biomass could, in the future, replace kerosene in aviation. In the search for alternatives to crude oil, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has been conducting research into new synthetic fuels for aviation for several years. Current results show that future fuels may even be superior to kerosene with regard to environmental friendliness and engine reliability. |
