CryoSat-2 polar mission launched
The Earth observation satellite CryoSat-2 was launched on time at 15:57 CET on 8 April. It will monitor the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets and sea ice until 2013. Researchers expect the mission to provide new insights into the relationships between global warming and the shrinking of the polar ice sheets and changes in oceanic and atmospheric circulation. DLR is contributing towards the funding of the mission on behalf of the German Federal Government.
