The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the National Aerospace Laboratory of the Netherlands (NLR) have intensified their cooperation in the field of Air Traffic Management (ATM). Today, a common legal entity called AT-One EEIG (AT-One European Economic Interest Grouping) has been established.
In the European ATM research area, a big step in international cooperation and harmonisation has been the foundation of the Single European Sky initiative. AT-One EEIG fully recognises the need for independent and extensive research, new technology and concepts as well as complex system validation and innovation.
The AT-One EEIG alliance combines the power of the two largest organisations for ATM research in Europe. It is an essential step to face the challenges of air transport operations in the future, such as the doubling of the number of flights in the next decade. As the number of flights increase, maintaining and increasing the level of safety in more crowded airspace will be a challenge. Also environmental issues, such as emissions and noise around airports are growing concerns.
Together, the specialists of NLR and DLR have the expertise and tools needed to help the air transport industry to achieve these ambitious goals.
Bundling the scientific expertises and research facilities between locations in Amsterdam and Braunschweig enhances the ability to tackle air traffic management research topics and their validation.
