Gerold Reichle succeeds Dr Ludwig Baumgarten as Executive Board member responsible for the DLR Space Agency

Gerold Reichle, new DLR Executive Board member since 1 February 2009

On 1 February 2009, Gerold Reichle took office as the new Executive Board member of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) responsible for the DLR Space Agency (DLR Raumfahrt-Agentur). He succeeded Dr Ludwig Baumgarten, who had been at the helm of the DLR Space Agency in Bonn since 1 April 2002. The members of the DLR Senate unanimously elected Mr Reichle as new Executive Board member on 3 December 2008. Before joining DLR, Mr Reichle headed the Directorate-General for Technology Policy of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie; BMWi).
 
Welcoming the new board member, Professor Johann-Dietrich Wörner, Chairman of the DLR Executive Board, said: "Mr Reichle is a valuable addition to the executive team. In his previous position as head of the Directorate-General for Technology Policy at BMWi, he has already shown his affinity for aeronautics, space, energy and transportation. I am looking forward to working with him on advancing German space exploration."
 
Professor Wörner also thanked outgoing DLR Executive Board member Dr Ludwig Baumgarten: "DLR, and German space exploration in general, have benefited greatly from having such an experienced administrator on the Executive Board. I would like to personally thank Dr Baumgarten for our fruitful cooperation, which began the day I took office two years ago. He has helped realise many exciting projects, such as the TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X satellite missions and the Columbus space laboratory."
