In general, it is not sufficient to just model wind speed or solar irradiance. For the energy system, energy output or the power delivered to a grid connection point is of more direct interest. The link between meteorological data and the technical and economic models should be precise enough to obtain realistic results. However, it should also be sufficiently simple, so that it can, for instance, be applied to large numbers of grid cells in geographic information systems or to forecast systems.
