Combustion and Gas Turbine Technologies

Moving from the current energy system mainly based on fossil fuels towards a more comprehensive use of renewable sources will take several decades. During this time and especially with the perspective of phasing out nuclear energy, a substantial proportion of electricity generation will continue to come from conventional technologies. Technological development in this area still offers considerable options for efficiency gains and emission reductions.

Energy process technology

The energy policy objectives of increasing energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the increased use of renewable energies call for rising efforts in the management of both electricity and heat and cannot be achieved without the development of improved conversion methods and utilisation techniques. The research area known as "energy process technology" with its conversion technologies such as fuel cells and electrical catalysts, storage technologies and new methods for fuel processing and hydrogen generation can render significant contributions.
