HyMap Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner

The HyMap Imaging Spectrometer is an Australian development, built by Integrated Spectronics Ltd., and operated by HyVista Corp. The sensor originally is dedicated to mineral exploration. Environmental monitoring is gaining a vital importance for its application.
The system is realised as a whisk-broom scanner with an ax head double mirror. In four individual spectrometer units the wavelength range between 400 and 2500 nm is covered in 125 spectral bands with a bandwidth of approx. 16 nm.
The instrument offers an extremely high signal to noise ratio (SNR) of more than 500:1 which is more than most existing imaging spectrometers including AVIRIS can realise.
These facts make HyMap a very valuable instrument for the simulation of future spaceborne spectrometers which as well will have a similar noise characteristic. Further specifications include: 5 m spatial resolution; 60 degrees swath width on-board radiometric and spectral calibration 3 axis gyros stabilised platform.
DLR is promoting the use of the HyMap in Europe and participated in the PROSMART'98 and '99 Campaigns which were conducted in the frame of the SmartSPECTRAL initiative of Dornier Satellitensysteme (DSS) and in the ESA founded DAISEX campaigns in 2000 and 2001 as well as in the HyEurope campaigns '99, '03, '04, '05 and '07.
