 Curriculum Vitae

2003 - today Professor of remote sensing at Munich Technical University (TUM)
2000 - today DLR: director of Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF), responsible for some 90 scientists and engineers: atmospheric spectrometry, image analysis, data mining, photogrammetry, SAR signal processing, SAR interferometry, remote sensing methodologies for traffic research, marine remote sensing, laboratory spectrometry, calibration and operation of airborne imaging spectrometers, sensor concepts.
1998 - 2000 DLR: co-director of German Remote Sensing Data Center, responsible for information technology, algorithms and processors. Establishment of the new DLR Remote Sensing Technology Institute in association with the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD).
1996 - 1998 DFD: head of ‘Methodology and Algorithms’ Section, SAR and InSAR processor development (SRTM, ERS), atmospheric sounding (GOME).
1994 JPL: 3 months, visiting scientist, development of algorithms for radar interferometry and special radar imaging modes, preparation of the SIR-C/X-SAR missions.
1992 - 1996 DFD: head of ‘Signal Processing’ team, development of the operational SAR processor for SIR-C/X-SAR, ERS product quality, ERS SAR interferometry, first studies for Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM).
1989 - 1992 Scientist at German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD), development of signal processing algorithms.
1981 - 1989 Technical University Munich: chair of communications engineering: multidimensional signal and systems theory, image processing, optical signal processing, holography wave propagation, imaging systems.

Education

2003 Appointed professor of remote sensing technology at Munich Technical University (TUM)
1996 Visiting professor at Innsbruck University, Austria
1988 ‘Habilitation’ degree (granting qualification to teach at university level) in the field of signal processing and systems theory, Munich Technical University (TUM).
1986 Engineering doctoral degree, Munich Technical University (TUM).
1980 Diploma in electrical engineering/communication theory, Munich Technical University (TUM).

Current Research Interests

Information retrieval from remote sensing data, inversion and estimation theory, algorithms for processing sensor data with focus on synthetic aperture radar (SAR), SAR interferometry, tomography and oceanography.
