Objectives
The main objectives of the SAMBA project are:
Advancement and documentation of high resolution SAR methods for generating geophysical products of calving glaciers, including surface elevation change, ice flow maps and calving fluxes.
Generation of data sets of the geophysical products for calving glaciers from high resolution SAR data in regions of high climatic sensitivity.
Validation of the geophysical products.
Retrieval of total glacier mass balance, surface mass balance and calving fluxes using satellite derived geophysical products.
Assessment of the impact of the high resolution SAR products for advancing the knowledge on the response of calving glaciers to changing climatic boundary conditions and for improving models on mass balance and dynamics of calving glaciers. Assess the potential of the geophysical products to reduce the uncertainties in current and future projections of mass losses from glaciers.
