Mekong Environmental Symposium 2013

Ho Chi Minh City

Vom The Mekong Environmental Symposium 2013 takes place from March 5th to 7th 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon.

The Mekong Environmental Symposium 2013 serves as an international platform for governmental decision makers, scientists, and other organizations active in the Mekong context. Contributions from all six Mekong countries - China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam - as well as from the international expert community are expected. Earth observation of the Mekong Basin, which' size is about 2.5 times that of Germany, will be one of several key topics for the conference. In the Mekong Basin the largest challenge is to find an equilibrium between socio-economic transformation and development (which includes the set-up of large hydropower dams) and the protection of the valuable resources in this natural river basin. In the basin the livelihood of millions of people depends on the natural resources provided by a healthy ecosystem.

The symposium is organized in the frame of the WISDOM Project, led by the German Remote Sensing Data Center, DFD.
