The Experimental Methods department of the Remote Sensing Technology Institute develops, tests and operates systems for remote sensing in the optical and infrared spectral ranges. With the main emphases on spectrometry, systems design and sensor operation, the following applications are covered:

  • Spectroscopic methods and measurement systems for remote sensing from aerial and spaceborne platforms,
  • Improvement of the spectroscopic database for environmentally relevant trace gases,
  • Methodologies for security functions like reconnaissance, defense and verification,
  • Multisensor real-time systems and data fusion processes,
  • Calibration, validation and operation of airborne remote sensing measurement systems.

The department also participates to a considerable extent in conceptualizing and developing the DLR Infrared Wildlife Finder
The department has three working groups:

  • Team: Spectrometry
  • Team: Sensor Operations
  • Team: Sensor Characterization and Concepts
