5 years of successful IKONOS ground station operations

IKONOS Ground Station

Since 5 years DLR is successfully operating the German Regional Operation Center (GEROC) in cooperation with European Space Imaging (EUSI). Since April 1, 2003 957 passes of the satellite IKONOS have been received and processed in Oberpfaffenhofen by GEROC. The cooperation with EUSI enables DLR direct access to high resolution 1m data. Among purely scientific applications, the Center for satellite-based crisis information ZKI of DFD has been benefiting from its direct access to IKONOS high quality imagery for numerous rapid mapping activities in the context of disaster management and humanitarian aid. The mapping results have been submitted both to relief organisations and to the public.
