The Earth Observation Center (EOC) closely cooperates with universities, not only with respect to research, but also education. We invite young scientists to work with us at DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen and Neustrelitz or at the endowed chairs at the University of Würzburg and Munich Technical University (TUM).

Internship

Please submit your application to us,

  • You should have an intermediate diploma (or have successfully passed a comparable examination)
  • The minimum duration of the internship is 6 weeks
  • You will be working “on the job” in current projects
  • Make sure that your email application includes the following items: the time frame preferred, your pre-knowledge, and your fields of interest.

Master's thesis

As a rule, both institutes only award a master thesis to candidates who have completed an internship.  The subject of the thesis is defined to accord with recent research emphases. Preferred branches of study are geography, geology, geophysics, cartography, physics, meteorology, mathematics, and informatics.  Expertise in video and animation technology is requested for work in the Geovisualization Center (GeoVIS).

PhD thesis

A limited number of scholarships are available in the framework of DLR’s PhD promotion program. Successful completion of a master’s thesis at the Earth Observation Center (EOC) is a precondition for working toward a PhD at DLR.

Remote Sensing working group at Würzburg University

DFD closely cooperates with the endowed chair for Remote Sensing in the Institute of Geography. Supplementary to the regular study of geography, candidates also have an opportunity to work there as trainees, toward their PhD,  or as “Jungwissenschaftler” (junior scientists).

Endowed chair for Methodology of Remote Sensing at Munich Technical University (TUM)

IMF has close ties to the endowed chair for Methodology of Remote Sensing at Munich Technical University (TUM). Supplementary to the regular study of geography, candidates also have an opportunity to work there as trainees, toward their PhD,  or as “Jungwissenschaftler” (junior scientists).

Job openings

The Earth Observation Center (EOC) recruits student research assistants, junior scientists and scientific staff for current research work and projects. These jobs are of limited duration. Salaries scales are in accordance with those of the German civil service (TVöD).
